Disney Cruise Line Concierge… Worth the Splurge??

An honest review by Travel Advisor, Anne Marie Wienkamp

I get asked this question often. Is concierge onboard a Disney cruise actually worth the extra cost? For years I'd tell clients what I knew from research and other guests' feedback, but I hadn't experienced it myself. My husband and I booked an adult-only trip on the Disney Wish, just the two of us, and decided to see for ourselves.

Here's everything we experienced, the good, the surprising, and what I'd tell you if you're on the fence.

Boarding day starts early, sort of

As concierge guests, we were in boarding group 1, which means we're called to board first. Concierge also gets its own waiting area in the terminal, but I want to be honest with you here, it's really just a separate seating area. No exclusive perks in the terminal itself. And even as group 1, we didn't actually board until almost noon. So if you're picturing walking right on at 10am, that's not quite how it works.

Lunch at 1923 set the tone for the whole trip

Once we boarded, we headed straight to 1923 for lunch, which is where concierge guests dine on embarkation day with a special menu. Most items overlap with the regular menu, but concierge adds a few standout options like lobster salad and filet mignon. They also include beer and wine at no additional cost. Lunch was fantastic, and it was the first sign that this trip was going to feel a little different.

Your room is ready before everyone else's

Another perk that matters more than people expect: concierge rooms are ready at 12:30 instead of 1:30, and our luggage showed up much faster than on previous sailings. After a morning of travel, getting into your room an hour earlier is a bigger deal than it sounds.

Yes, you still do the muster drill

Just to clear up a common question, concierge doesn't exempt you from the safety muster drill. Everyone still does it.

The room itself: we didn't miss the verandah

We normally book oceanview with a verandah, but for this trip I was swayed by videos I'd seen of the front-of-ship, bridge-like views you get from certain concierge oceanview rooms, so we tried it without a verandah. I'll admit I was a little nervous about that choice.

We didn't miss it. The room was beautiful, and the floor-to-ceiling windows gave us views that felt second only to what the captain must see from the bridge. Between that and having access to the concierge lounge decks, of which there are two, we had plenty of outdoor space and never once wished we'd had the verandah.

The concierge lounge is where the value really shows up

This is the part I think people underestimate. The lounge isn't just a nice space to sit, it's a steady stream of perks all day long:

Included alcoholic beverages in the lounge from 5 to 10pm every night. Small plates available all day, including sweet treats, plus non-alcoholic beverages in the lounge, on the concierge sundeck, and from a stocked refrigerator in our room. A fruit tray in the room. You can even order hot breakfast items in the lounge instead of heading to a dining room. The lounge also hosts special character meet and greets you won't find anywhere else on the ship.

The concierge sundeck deserves its own mention too. There are stocked fridges up there, a bar manned throughout the day (alcoholic drinks are an additional charge on the sundeck, unlike the lounge), a smoothie machine, hot tubs, and a soaking pool. It's a great quieter spot to spend an afternoon.

Little things that added up to a lot

Priority seating at the shows, and free popcorn anytime, not just when you're seeing a show. Elemis bath products, robes, and slippers.

And then there's the bed. I have to give it its own paragraph because it deserves one. It was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, cruise ship or otherwise. On the Wish, concierge staterooms have a king size bed instead of the queen you get in regular staterooms (on the older ships, concierge rooms still have a queen, but you do get the upgraded linens either way). The mattress padding, the down comforter, the pillows, all of it felt like sleeping on a cloud. I was so impressed I actually looked up the exact mattress, mattress pad, linens, and comforter online afterward. There's even a pillow menu, though we didn't end up using it. My husband and I still talk about that bed.

But honestly, the thing that stood out most was having a concierge team available to help with anything. We needed to move an adult dining reservation and they handled it without any hassle. My husband left his sunglasses at a restaurant onboard, and all we had to do was mention it to the concierge team and they tracked them down for us.

Disembarkation

If you've ever sailed Disney before, you know disembarkation can be a little hectic, especially if you're trying to line up early to make a flight or ground transportation. I've stood in a very long line on Deck 3 waiting to be scanned off the ship more than once.

Concierge disembarkation is a completely different experience, and it will make you feel so bougie. The concierge team runs a relay system. One team member is stationed at the forward elevators on Deck 12 with a special badge that makes the elevator "express," so it doesn't stop on any other floors while you're in it. You ride down to Deck 4, where another concierge team member is waiting to walk you straight to a concierge gangway, no line, with a dedicated person to scan you off the ship. It's an amazing process. We were so tickled by the whole thing.

One perk we didn't get to use, and why it matters

Because we booked concierge later in our planning process, we missed out on one of the biggest advantages: at 130 days before your cruise, the concierge team can book excursions, specialty dining, cabanas, spa treatments, and even a Royal Gathering on your behalf. This is actually the real secret to booking a cabana on Castaway Cay or Lighthouse Point. It's widely known that concierge guests, through their concierge team, have the best shot at securing one.

If you're considering concierge, this is exactly the kind of thing your Jolly Holiday travel advisor can help you plan around, so you don't miss that window like we did.

So, is it worth it?

Concierge is more expensive, no question. It can almost double the cost of the cruise for a standard concierge stateroom, and if you're looking at one of the bigger rooms like a Tower Suite, get ready for a pretty steep price tag.

Will you get your money's worth? I think that's something each person has to answer for themselves. Are you going to drink enough free cocktails between 5 and 10pm to offset the price difference? Probably not. But do you love being pampered, feeling special, and having that extra layer of service throughout your whole trip? Then maybe it is for you.

For us, on an adult-only trip, it was worth it. It's not just an upgraded room, it's a different rhythm to the whole cruise: faster room access, a lounge stocked with food and drinks all day, priority seating, and a team ready to solve small problems before they become annoying ones.

Would I book concierge every single time we sail Disney? No. I love a Disney cruise even without the extra service, because the service on a Disney cruise is already exceptional. Our stateroom host on Deck 8 was just as attentive and wonderful as our concierge stateroom host. I enjoyed every perk of concierge, and our plan is to sail concierge again next summer, just my husband and me.

But my pool-deck-chicken-tenders-loving kids might not care about small plates in the lounge or lobster salad at embarkation lunch. They might not fully appreciate the extra service from the concierge team or the disembarkation process either. So concierge may end up being something we save for our adult trips rather than something we book with the whole family.

(At the time I'm writing this, we're actually booked for concierge again in June 2027, this time on the Disney Fantasy. Purely for research purposes, of course, because it might be a totally different experience on a different ship. Wink.)

Curious if concierge makes sense for your family or your next trip? Reach out and let's talk through it, I can help you figure out where the splurge is worth it and where it isn't.
