Laid Back Luxury in Puerto Rico: A stay at Aire de O:live

Honest TA Review by Scarlett Leigh

Staying at Aire de O:live felt like a quiet luxury escape tucked into one of San Juan’s most stylish corners. Located in Isla Verde the resort is situated on one of the best stretch of beaches in San Juan. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was calm, modern, and intentionally designed with a focus on comfort and sustainability. Their website mentions how the 80-room hotel will feel “airy and private, like a home away from home” and it most certainly does.

Upon my arrival one of the first things I noticed was the pool area, this is definitely a “stand out” area! It was beautifully maintained, peaceful, and perfect for slowing down. The lounge chairs and daybeds made it easy to spend hours there without feeling rushed, and the overall vibe was intimate rather than crowded. The quiet and relaxing calm of the pool area would offer any guest the ability to relax, recharge and reset! This resort, designed with a bohemian style in mind, is luxurious but sustainable with wooden furnishings and imperfect decor that give it the feel of “laid back luxury.”

The resort offers several different room types each with unique features that every traveler will love. Some with city views, rainfall showers, ocean views, step out balconies, all decorated with massive timbers of French oak and a few modern sensibilities. They carefully selected natural materials with earth tones that are relaxing yet environmentally friendly. Just steps away from the beautiful beach, I was impressed with everything Aire de O:live had to offer its guests.

The rooftop restaurant was another highlight. Japanese-inspired, Kumo Rooftop is beautiful, and the 360-degree views alone were worth the visit, but the food and ambiance made it even better. Their menu highlights a few signature dishes such as king salmon skewers, and Lomo Saltado (a Peruvian beef stir fry), It was all so delightful! Reservations are recommended especially on the weekend, and the dress code is smart casual. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience at Kumo, and I will always remember the panoramic views of the ocean and the San Juan coastline, it truly is one of a kind!

From thoughtfully chosen materials to sustainable practices in daily operations, it was clear that environmental responsibility was integral to the design, rather than an afterthought. It added a meaningful layer to the stay, especially for anyone who values more conscious travel. One of the features that also stood out to me, but I wasn’t able to take advantage of was the Wellness aspect of the resort. They provide a relaxing space where local instructors offer classes to their community such as Pilates, HIIT workouts etc. promoting their belief in a “health and wellness lifestyle.” I’m looking forward to experiencing one of these during my next stay.

Overall, Aire de O:live strikes a balance between boutique luxury and mindful hospitality. Between the serene pool, the memorable rooftop dining, and the eco-conscious details, it’s a stay that feels both indulgent and intentional.
